File extension (file extension) is a suffix added to the file name to indicate the file type and it is unique for different type of software. File extension is not mandatory but it is recommended, in the modern computer world is widely spread. Thanks to the file extension, the computer operating system recognizes the file type and it draws for you an user friendly icon. The picture shows a file with a jpg extension. The example file is called "screen2v7" + "." + Extension "jpg". For the convenience of the users, Windows allows the option to automatically hide the file extension, which are recognizable by the system, so you may not see the extension as shown in the image above.
